We paid 27.44 to buy this since it was only 5.00 more than the rental fee. It is not even worth watching for fee.
Movie is horribly cut together looking like they just want to make money off of it for streaming and not bother to make a decent movie because people will buy it based on the earlier movies.
I know it is 2020 but come on make a movie that is worth watching or do not do it at all.
If this had been released in theaters this way I think most people would have walked out of the theater and wanted there money back. Everyone involved with this release should be embarrassed to be associated with the finished product. Or should I say not so finished product. Do not waste your time or money on this one.
Look, as the title of this review says, this is one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen since I was a kid. maybe this is unfair considering I have these memories to Grass bat it brought me back to my childhood to a much simpler time and it was so nice to just finally have a movie that wasn't loaded with drama or truth or total seriousness or shoot them up blood and guts and Gore. it was nice to finally have a comedy one that truly kept me smiling at least almost the entire time with many laughs throughout. Keanu Reeves rocks as a comic actor so many today have no idea his talent there. Other than seeing him age Alex Winter is spot on not hardly any different than the original Bill we knew. I can't say enough good about this movie and I only hope the younger generation can appreciate what made these movies so fantastic in the first place that there's more to life than serious dramas that comedy and nonfiction is a very wonderful thing at the end of the day to take a load off.

The fact that Mariah is calling Taco's name inside her car 🤣.
This is what ive wanted ever since I discovered bill and ted in highschool.
Yep, there are a lot of peopl who are just plain stupid, and I want to know how many of those people they talked to are in or have gone to college.
No bragging rights.
I grew up with Bill and Ted. My first Excellent Adventure came back in 89. I was six years old, but the 80's shaped my life. The music has always been some of my favorite, along with the movies. These two were part of what shaped my personality. Apparently too well since my freshman history teacher referred to me and my friend and Bill's and Ted. He probably didn't mean it as a compliment, but I took it that way anyway.
The first was a great movie, very much a product of the time. The problem with creating a world back then is, the original creator had an idea and went with it. They didn't know if it would be a classic or another throw away film. So it was created with a particular mindset.
How do you follow something up this many years later? How can anything possibly live up to the hype of a legend. What we imagine will always be more than can be delivered. What they did was take that concept and figure out how to tie it all together and give closure, because there are many if us hardcore fans out there. There is also the overwhelming desire to keep remaking movies from our childhood because they think they have a great idea to make it their own, and the world was a better place.
Now, hang with me. This all ties with the movie. They couldn't create the song that would unite humanity. Music from the 80's till now has changed so drastically. Music from just a decade later in the 90's was a mostly different experience. The reason they could never predict what everyone would love back than becsuse music is shaped by experiences. The music of the decade tells a story about the people and experiences. That's why as we get older we listen to our favorite music or watch our favorite films more.
We yearn for a better time in our life. When things were happier, simpler, cleaner. We never know what we have until we don't have it anymore. That's why they say youth is wasted on the young. We revisit our favorite characters because we want to see how they turned out in relation to ourselves. It's a yardstick of growth, if you will. It seems silly, but movies and television took a huge hold over our lives in the 70's on. It is engrained in our culture, it is in our blood. Trivia and pop-culture call back is what we are all about. We love those moments when we see something and "get that reference." It's like an inside joke you are lucky enough to be apart of. I know I'm a fool for it. I also know I gave my dad a hard time before he passed, about how he would watch the same few movies over and over. I didn't understand the lack of wanting to experience something new.
When we are greeted with something new, something that is different from our expectations, more often than not, we recoil. Change sucks. For some more than others. That's what this movie deals with, and I think why the writers really nailed it. I get how some will nitpick or call out somethings. The whole way they handle the kids is a reasonable argument. I watched the originals in preparation for this at midnight. They were sons in the last movie. Now, I can see how some would read this comment and immediately assume I'm going to have a problem with that based on the sex.
It isn't so much that they changed the sex, their kids could have been either way at the end of the last. The choice was made tho for them to be sons. Continuity is a huge thing for me in series. I feel it's a lot more important to people that many want to admit to. It just comes off as pandering. I know women and minorities haven't always gotten fair screen time or great characters. However, when you make that jarring change, it feels very pandering. Which in turn makes it feel super cheap and lose its impact.
I'm going to overlook that and the obvious way it is going to impact the end of the movie. I'm not saying how, just saying it's a very obvious conclusion. The daughters were fun characters. Not much depth, but many would argue B&T didn't have much. It could be argued its a poor cut and paste job to appease a wider demographic. I see that stuff and I do give thought; however I want to judge a film on its own merit. Can I not have my immersion broken further by more jarring social/political commentary?
The answer is definitely yes. Those are small things that I get they want to make it feel more inclusive. Things weren't so great about a wider group being represented. This movie shows that in order for us all to come together, we need to get over these petty differences that make us individuals. All that should matter is the personality, not the shell. We should all be free to do our own thing, but also feel included in the grand scheme of things.
That's really what this movie is about. Inclusion. I feel like we could use more of that right now, more than any other time in our lives. Too many groups are trying to divide us. The problem is, the ones dividing us are doing it for their own means. With Bill and Ted, ever since they were high school students, they have been burdened with the knowledge that the future hangs on their seemingly incapable shoulders.
These were just two guys being friends, bonding over music. They had no agenda. The bs world of being an adult, working 9-5 to barely make ends meet, didn't mean anything to them. They lived for their passion. The people that would be our parents weren't happy with dreamers. It wasn't viable for living a life we've all been told to have. We have been trained for the last, however many generations, and that we go to school. Get a job, go back to school. Get a family, get a house. Rinse and repeat. Keep the consumer conveyor assembly running.
Bill and Ted are above all that. They focus on the subset of people that see there is more to life than that garbage. Friends, family, music; these are just a few of the driving forces in their lives. These unlikely two have the weight of creation resting on them, and you have to figure that is a crazy load to carry regardless of when you get it. Obviously the actors look older because it's been 31 years. You can't hide that, unless this was Disney's Bill and Ted's Mouse Face the Music.
I don't know about y'all, but I don't look exactly like I did 31 years ago. Not even 20 years since I graduated, do I appear similar. Personalities change too. The actors were young and starting out. Life was fresh and exciting. It's that youthful exuberance that I mentioned before, about being wasted on the youth. Bill (Winters) sounds and looks exactly as you'd expect. Which was crazy, because I remember going into this thinking how much you could tell the years did to him. Ted (Reeves) was the young amazing looking vampire. But alas, Wick shaved his Uber manly beard, but kept the long lockes. This is the first time I've ever really felt like Keanu didn't look basically the same since I was a child watching mesmerized by his work.
I've faithfully followed him and his career because I always felt he was more grounded and real as compared to many actors of the time. He has done amazing at looking and acting so young. So Ina sense, seeing time catch up and weigh then down, it is like a mirrow with steel toe boots kicking you in the taint. Makes you look back on your life and choices. What would you have done different given a magical box that is impossibly bigger on the. Errr. well, deceptively more accommodating, on the inside.
We don't know how we got here in life. Yesterday we were in high school, young and had our lives in front. Suddenly it's 31 years later and what do we have to show for it? How did time go so fast?
I think the original really nailed it when they had the joke about Ted winding his watch. Time is always on the march. No matter what you do, where you go, it doesn't forget about you. It's often thrown around about how we should live in the moment, don't put off tomorrow what you could do today. Yes, these lines are horribly overused like "live, laugh, love." Somewhere along the way marketing people got their hands on universal wisdom and started marketing it to basic bi. bin worthy decoration.
Live in the now is really what this series is about. That thesis argument right there seems a bit far fetched for some. A couple of pot head types waxing all existential and philosophical. That was how my parents saw it, their parents before them, etc. We (I use this for all the real adults out there, not me I suck at adulting) are trained to look down on people that think different; that don't confirm to the consumer lap dog lifestyle.
With the fate of everything still on these guys shoulders all these years later, obviously they haven't figured it out yet. Who could? I loved "Rock and Roll for Everyone" from the last movie. That guitar opening build-up? I still get goosebumps when I hear it. Not because who wrote it, or because I was told to like it; I love it because I hear it and it moves me. That's what music is about man! It might not sound the same for everyone, but that's not the point. The point is, music transcends. They say math is the universal language. I call bs and mention Hudson Hawn or Short Circuit 2. Music is the way. When those notes and chords blend, when the harmony raises you up thru your head and into the clouds, as it were, that's how music is supposed to be. Transcendent. Not saying every song is O worthy. But there are many great songs that touch people for many reasons. It's a connect we can share. It doesn't matter your sex, orientation, color, politics. It is the music that touches us and united us. That is what this movie is about.
It's about coming together to connect. Finding something to share with others, and shows us that we don't always have to fight. It's OK to want to live different. We shouldn't live to work. Music brings us together. Not just one song, but many songs. Because each song is a story told of a time that meant something to us.
